How it works
Your browser already knows how to open WebP and AVIF images. The app asks it to decode each image right on your device, then encodes it again with MozJPEG, a high-quality JPG encoder compiled to run inside the page (WebAssembly). Nothing is sent anywhere, which is why it is fast, private and works offline.
JPG compares the result with the original (SSIM) and keeps the smallest JPG that still looks the same. JPG, maximum quality always uses quality 95. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency: images without transparency keep every pixel exactly, and along soft transparent edges the browser may round a colour by a level or two, which you can't see. PNG files are compressed with OxiPNG.
When you need WebP as JPG
Images saved from websites
Many websites serve WebP images, so "Save image as" gives you a .webp file that some apps, older Photoshop versions or Windows Photo Viewer won't open. Convert it to JPG and it opens everywhere.
Uploading to forms and marketplaces
Job portals, government forms, print shops and some marketplaces only accept JPG or PNG. Convert first, then upload.
AVIF photos
AVIF is newer still and even less widely supported. Convert AVIF to JPG to share or edit it anywhere.
Stickers and logos with transparent backgrounds
Choose PNG to keep the transparent background of a WebP sticker or logo.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. WebP to JPG Offline never uploads your images. They are opened and converted inside your browser on your own phone or computer, and the JPG files are saved straight back to your device. No server ever receives them.
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Choose or drop your WebP images. Each one is converted to JPG right away on your device. Download them one by one, or all together as a ZIP file.
Will the JPG look worse than the WebP?
No. In the default JPG mode the app compares the JPG with the WebP (SSIM) and picks the smallest file that still looks the same. Choose JPG maximum quality if you prefer the highest quality regardless of size, or PNG for a lossless copy. A JPG is often larger than the WebP it came from, because WebP compresses better; that is normal.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas become white, and the app tells you when an image had transparency. To keep the transparent background, choose PNG.
Can it convert AVIF to JPG?
Yes. AVIF images are converted the same way, to JPG or PNG. It also converts PNG, GIF and BMP to JPG.
What about animated WebP files?
JPG and PNG are still images, so an animated WebP is saved as its first frame, and the app tells you it was animated.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit the app is stored in your browser, so you can open it and convert images without an internet connection. You can also install it like an app.
Is it free? Is there a limit?
It is free, with no account, no watermark and no daily limit. You can convert up to 100 images at a time, up to 100 MB each.
